Battery management

The battery is essential to operate electric vehicles. Its most important task is to provide the power levels required for driving quickly and reliably. To ensure a long battery life, it's critical to operate it within a certain temperature range. If the operating temperature exceeds approximately +40°C, the life span is reduced drastically. Below -10° C, efficiency drops off and performance sinks. We develop HVAC systems that cover brief peak loads, excessive temperature differences between the individual cells, as well as the reality of high outdoor temperatures during the summer months. Sophisticated thermal management is our important contribution to increasing the life span of batteries and their performance.

During their service life, electric cars are often connected to charging stations, when they are able to be pre-conditioned before driving (pre-tempering), without loading the battery. An optimised thermal management for electric vehicles enables the exhaust heat from the battery to be used to pre-temper the driver's cabin. In general, these systems aid reduced power consumption for heating or cooling while driving.

We offer tailor-made solutions for the charging infrastructure. Together with our customer Kreisel Electric GmbH & Co KG, we're developing a monitored, active heating and cooling system for their newest product, CHIMERO, an innovative fast-charging station for electric vehicles. The system ensures that the batteries always stay at the ideal temperature both in summer and in winter to guarantee the most efficient charging process.
